My inspiration Mondays - Healthy August

Inspiration to eat better can come from the unlikeliest of places. My mate, Grant Van de Wetering, came up with a whole healthy eating event - Healthy August - just to impress a girl. It didn't exactly work out for him, (ie. he didn't get the girl) but Healthy August is becoming a cult phenomenon.

I met Grant at a Scripture Union camp many moons ago. The same camp in fact that I met my darling husband at. Fortuitous times two! Like my husband, Grant is a bit of a gaming geek - you'll see signs of this as you read the levels below.

Healthy August plan

Cut out junk food for the month of August. That's it. Genius in its simplicity. Although, you can take this to extremes (see the levels below).

Levels of commitment

Novice: No fast food, ie. Burger King, KFC, McDonalds, Pizza Hut/Dominos, Hell, Burger Fuel and any non multi-national corporation alternatives, eg. pies.

Swordsman: No fast food, candy, soft drinks, chips/crisps

Knight: No fast food, candy, soft drinks, chips, biscuits, ice cream or dessert.

Lord Knight: No fast food, candy, soft drinks, chips, biscuits, chocolate, ice-cream, desserts, alcohol.

Replacement options

If you're like me, you might find it difficult to give up junk food cold turkey without having something tasty to replace it with. Check out my recipes for good, homemade eats, and check back here every Wednesday for new healthy recipes I'll be posting through the month of August.

Good luck!
