Take a virtual tour around my rented, terraced Wellington section and see how I've transformed it from an overgrown wilderness to a productive vegetable garden.

Bottom left-hand corner

BEFORE:
An overgrown mass of... who knows what?
DURING:
Making headway clearing away the overgrowth.
Pregnant and gardening - a great way to get baby into the right position.
AFTER:
Cleared. There was a mortared-in brick garden hiding under all that mess.
Planted. Last summer it housed my zucchinis (and lots of weeds).
Planted. This year it's home to pumpkins and a few spuds that have popped up on their own.

BEFORE:


DURING:

Clearing away most of the hedge and building a raised garden out of a wooden bed.

AFTER:

Passionfruit vines and tomatoes are planted against the wall on the right.

Potatoes, cabbages and broccoli are planted in the raised garden.

Long garden

BEFORE:
Unfortunately I didn't take any true before pictures showing all the weeds I had to clear.

AFTER:
Masses of plant life - beans, carrots, lobelia and marigolds.
Cucumbers, carrots, tomatoes, basil, lobelia and marigolds.
Middle-level sloping garden

BEFORE:
Check out that clay.
DURING:
Soil vastly improved with the addition of compost.
AFTER:
Last summer: planted out last summer with zucchini, broccoli, beetroot and marigolds. Mulched with pea straw.
This year: planted with carrots, beetroot and snow peas.
Raised garden

BEFORE:
A small stretch of flat land near our kitchen door and a kit-set raised garden.

DURING:
Kit-set raised garden built, filled and newly planted.
AFTER:
A riot of produce.
