Homegrown - Spring growth and pea straw

My garden has been blessed lately, with a good mixture of rainy days and sunny ones. Most things are flourishing and I haven't had to desperately run around with a watering can like I do when it's sunny for too many days in a row. (Don't you just love my positive spin on Wellington's rainy weather?)

A couple of weeks back I threw a whole lot of Zoodoo pea straw around my newly planted seedlings. Pea straw deters weeds, encourages water retention and provides nitrogen. It has made life a lot easier for me, since I haven't had to weed as much. I like it when a little bit of work early on, saves a whole lot of work later!

Here's a photo gallery of how some of my gardens are looking at this end of spring.
The bottom terrace of our backyard.
Lily sitting in the apple tree next to our flourishing bed of potatoes.
Beans, carrots and cauliflower, plus last year's lobelia blossoming again.
Tomatoes, basil, leeks, carrots, beans, cauliflower and lobelia.
Zucchini / Courgette plants in their bed of pea straw.
Lemon, feijoa and avocado trees.
Snow peas, beetroot and a rainbow variety of carrots.
How are your gardens looking?

  2. Looks like you are going to have a great bounty! I can't wait until we clear out backyard so that we can begin landscaping and creating the garden beds. I've been trying to gorw veg in pots, which doesn't work nearly as well, particularly in California's drought summers.

  3. Loving all your carrots and Lily is bigger in each picture, I swear!

The lobelia is so pretty, too. I love the color!
