Tuesday's tip: Store empty containers where you'll use them

If you've got empty pantry or fridge containers, don't store them in a separate container cupboard. Pop them straight back into your pantry or fridge. That way you'll be able to see at a glance what you've run out of and the containers will be right where you need them when you're ready to refill them.

For example, I have a couple of big Tupperware Fridge Smart containers for keeping my vegetables crisp. Even when these are empty, I leave them in the fridge so I can dump new produce straight into them. This saves me needing to find cupboard space somewhere else to store them in the meantime.

I also have a set of pantry containers labelled with items I regular have on hand. When one is empty, like this chocolate bud container, it's easy to see I need to add chocolate drops to my shopping list.

What are your time- and money-saving tips? I'd love to share them with readers on Tuesday's tip.

  1. One of our money safe tips is to buy bulk from Moore Wilsons for pasta, flour and rice and store this in big containers in the pantry. These kinds of things don't really spoil provided they're stored properly so it works well. Plus the savings are huge - about $19 for 5 kgs of pasta shells vs. $6 for a 500g bag at the supermarket!
